In North Carolina, no permit is required for projects costing less than $40,000.* This amount includes all the work done. Anything less than $40,000, you do not need a permit.

*$40,000 is a cumulative amount. If you have 3 projects happening at the same time, by the same person that are $15,000 each, you would need a permit.

What is the purpose of getting a permit?
